OKRs I worked on this week:
Junior review preparation
Prepare for and do an internship
Learn from challenging feedback
“Junior review preparation”
We spent most of our professional practice class time getting to know the process of junior review and understanding how each one of us will be assessed. I found the rubric bingo activity beneficial mainly because it gave me an overall picture of how I am currently doing and what else I need to accomplish in order to fulfill certain criteria. For instance, if I really want to make my “Nudge” case study stands out, I need to further enhance its value proposition and state how it differentiates from other competitors. Nonetheless, based on my self-assessment, most of my case studies do fulfill all the standard criteria.
“Prepare for and do an internship”
I continued updating my portfolio based on my plan, I took a look at many others’ portfolios (I asked for permission in advance) and decided to change some of my layout and text in my second case study. Besides updating my portfolio, I also attended an internship event held by CCA’s career development program. During this event, I learned that even if it requires a lot of work, it is preferable to tailor my resume and cv letter when applying to different companies.
“Learn from challenging feedback”
Thanks to the student leaders from IXDA, I was able to acquire qualitative feedback for my case studies during the portfolio review workshop they hosted. During this event, I learned that in my portfolio, I should spend time introducing my design process and emphasize my role and skills throughout the design process, the same thing goes for my resume. This way, the recruiter would know my strengths presented in each case study.

As for next week, I plan to spend more time applying for internships since I have not been sending out as many applications as I used to. It is crucial for me to realize this is part of the process, even if that means receiving rejection letters on a daily basis. Besides this, I am going to modify my case studies and resume based on the feedback I received from the portfolio workshop event.
